GMRD Rookie Roster Launch

Make roller derby your resolution. Join the GMRD Rookie Roster 2/7/17

Join Green Mountain Roller Derby in 2017!

We hope you all had a safe and fun New Years celebration. Green Mountain Roller Derby is back in action and ready to hit the track in 2017!

Is joining GMRD your New Years Resolution? Then we have some exciting information for you.

We are pleased to announce a new structure for accepting rookie skaters and officials in 2017. Instead of a rolling weekly recruitment, like we have done in the past, we will be moving to a system where we accept new skaters and officials in intermittent waves throughout our season. With this new structure, our new recruits will begin their training in a group and progress through learning new skills together. We anticipate many benefits from this change, including a stronger sense of community among our rookies and an improved flow through lesson plans.

Our first new recruit wave of 2017 will be on Tuesday, February 7th.

Whether you’re interested in becoming skater or an official, Green Mountain Roller Derby is here to teach you everything you need to know.

RSVP on our Facebook event page to let us and other rookies know that you’re coming!

Here are the details:

WHEN: Tuesday, February 7th 8:30pm – 10:00pm.
WHERE: In the Blue Ribbon Pavillion at the Champlain Valley Expo.
WHAT: We’re launching our first round of training for new skaters and officials.
If you will be skating, you must be at least 18 years old. We recommend wearing clothing that you’re comfortable exercising in.

+ Mouthguard (we recommend SISU mouthguards – http://www.sisuguard.com/)
+ Water bottle
+ Photo ID
+ A good attitude

We’ll provide the rest!

You can get a head start by going to our Recruits page and filling out the new skater form.

Traveling Skaters

Will you be traveling to Vermont soon?

                                             …come skate with us!

Road Trip to Vermont

As skaters on our local roller derby teams we all need to make sure that we are getting our practices in. How does that work if you are planning to travel afar? Don’t stress; you can attend a practice, scrimmage or skate clinic to make up that time.  See Green Mountain Roller Derby’s visiting skater polices below.

Visiting Skater Credit: Skaters may receive one attendance credit per calendar month for practicing with a local league (within 100 miles), participating in an open scrimmage hosted by another league or attending a skate clinic. In order to receive credit, the other league or clinic organizer must email GMRDAttendance@gmail.com to confirm your participation.

If you are traveling out of the area (>100 miles), you may get credit for up to two practices per calendar month for practicing with another league.

The maximum visiting skater credit possible per month is one practice (between local leagues and clinics) or two if traveling out of the area.

**GMRDAttendance@gmail.com must receive the confirmation email from the league or the clinic organizer no later than the end of the last practice before chartering or a bout.**

The Premiere of Green Mountain Roller Derby

The Green Mountain Derby Dames, Vermont’s original and largest roller derby league, is proud to announce that it will change its name to Green Mountain Roller Derby, dropping the gender-specific “Dames” from its moniker.

As our league and the sport of roller derby continue to grow, it has become evident that identifying as “derby dames” may feel exclusionary to some in our community. By nature, “dame” is a gendered term, and yet, we are a community made up of women, men, young adults, and children.

Additionally, we want our league name to reflect who we are and what we do in a clear, concise manner. Including “Roller Derby” in our name allows our audiences to immediately understand that we play a roller sport (rather than the equestrian derby or demolition derby).

The following logo has been created in order to accommodate these changes:
