The Premiere of Green Mountain Roller Derby

The Green Mountain Derby Dames, Vermont’s original and largest roller derby league, is proud to announce that it will change its name to Green Mountain Roller Derby, dropping the gender-specific “Dames” from its moniker.

As our league and the sport of roller derby continue to grow, it has become evident that identifying as “derby dames” may feel exclusionary to some in our community. By nature, “dame” is a gendered term, and yet, we are a community made up of women, men, young adults, and children.

Additionally, we want our league name to reflect who we are and what we do in a clear, concise manner. Including “Roller Derby” in our name allows our audiences to immediately understand that we play a roller sport (rather than the equestrian derby or demolition derby).

The following logo has been created in order to accommodate these changes:

The price is $12 for adults, and $8 for kids 12 and under. All proceeds benefit the Green Mountain Derby Dames and go towards expenses like practice space and travel. Grade A Fancy Co-Host Big Easy Monday

The Grade A Fancy and Until Next Time co-host a dinner at ArtsRiot with New Orleans-themed food. Portion of the profits to benefit the GAF travel fund. Be on the look out for Dames on skates throughout the night! Menu TBD. As always there will be rice & beans and beer for $8. Check out the Facebook event for more info.

Love this idea so much you want to go again or you’re busy on the 27th? Don’t worry the Fancy’s will team up with Until Next Time again on March 3rd! Hope to see you there!

Spring Girls Roller Derby League

The Green Mountain Derby Dames have expanded their love of roller derby to help create the Minor Catastrophes, Vermont’s first girls’ junior roller derby team. Each week girls will train with veteran skaters from the Green Mountain Derby Dames learning all the basic skills of skating on quad roller skates: skating, stopping, agility, speed and endurance. Girls with skating ability from beginning to advanced can participate. The Minor Catastrophes will have a chance to skate in a halftime exhibition game at a spring GMDD bout. Check out the Essex Junction Rec Page for more info. Excited about junior derby and you already want more?! Great news, there will also be a summer junior derby camp!
